The Lingo Global Traveler 20 is the flagship of Lingo's "non-talking" line of language translators. In all, there are 20 languages (400,000 words) in the dictionary that can be cross referenced with a touch of a button.
We found the Global Traveler very easy to use with a clear, readable screen. We also liked the true "pocket" size of the Global Traveler--as it will easily fit in any shirt, blazer or trouser pocket.
We really had fun checking out the different language variations for "Hello" or "Good Morning", each requiring only a couple of keystrokes to find. Then, going from language to language is only 1 button away on the keypad. However, this translator is for casual language use only; the language student will be disappointed in not being able to add words to the dictionary or conjugate verbs. "Have" is in the dictionary but "had" or "having" are not. Also, the Global Traveler does not handle "ad hoc" phrases. The phrase "you have a beautiful daughter" would have to be translated word by word and most certainly not come out with the proper sentence structure.
There are about 2,000 different phrases packed into this unit. These phrases are accessed either through menu options such as "accommodations" or "meals" or by using a keyword that is contained in the phrase. With a little practice you will become very proficient at finding the right phrase at the right time.
If you need help with language pronunciation, please consider a talking language translator such as the Lingo Pacifica or Lingo Voyager.
